Two Day Taster Weekend on Narrowboat Maddison
The sun was shining in early May 2016, the boat was gleaming and we were ready to learn how to steer 62 ft long Narrowboat Maddison
Poppy had got her special self inflating lifejacket (we did a lot of research to find the most suitable and unobtrusive vest, and this was the best - also amazing customer service from TheAnimalarm.com). We'd got wine, beer and our evening meal in the on-board fridge - we were ready
Brevic and Michelle are truly lovely people, who put us at ease immediately. Brevic is very patient with his instructions, and Michelle quickly got the bacon and egg butties going and the kettle on
We learned so many things - boat safety, boat handling, locking, winding (turning a boat round at a special wide place on the canal), canal etiquette and much more.
Brevic and MIchelle stayed with us all day until we moored up in the evening, leaving us to cook our own meal (lunch had been provided by Michelle). Our beautiful, tranquil mooring place was within walking distance of a pub, so Kevin and the dog ambled over whilst the evening meal was cooking.
The following morning Brevic and Michelle joined us after our breakfast (a beautiful breakfast basket left for us) and we confidently steered the boat back to her mooring at Penkridge.
A wonderful experience. I think we're going to like this narrowboating lark!
